"The physical modeling of the dark matter halo mass distribution is key to understanding the complex mechanisms that drive the late time cosmic structure formation. Over the past decades the halo mass function has been primarily investigated using numerical N-body simulations. In this talk I will review recent numerical studies and discuss the physical significance of the results in the light of the path-integral formulation of the Excursion Set Theory."
